Description
The Twiske
You start your walk at the edge of the recreation area Het Twiske. The landscape here is very varied and rich in water. From here you walk over the ring dike of Het Twiske and along the edge of Landsmeer in the direction of the hamlet of Het Schouw. Along the way you can enjoy a beautiful view of the Ilperveld, a nature reserve of the North Holland Landscape.
Kadoelen
You also walk through the Kadoelen district, after which this route is named. This used to be an offshoot of the IJ with marshy soils, mosquito infestations and dike breaches. So it was here at the time'Quaetdolen\\\', or'bad stay\\\'. On your way back to Het Twiske you will pass the old lock Luijendijk and the Twiskemolen.
The Twiske Mill
The Twiskemolen is one of the few working polder mills in the Netherlands. This mill was built in 1578 and since 1975 the mill has been on its current location. The mill is still used to maintain the water level of the surrounding polders. With every bit of wind you can see the blades turning.

Height Profile
