An inspiring landscape

This route takes you through Meijendel, a vast nature reserve north of Scheveningen. You mainly walk through the forest in the dune valley. Many hawthorns and other deciduous trees planted by humans grow here. While walking you will also see remains of the former agricultural exploitation, such as Meijendel Farm and various sand banks and ditches planted with alders. Here and there you walk across small plots of pine trees. Meijendel is an ideal walking area, you can completely relax in this sheltered and quiet area. The hectic Randstad seems to be on the other side of the world. Animals also like to stay in Meijendel. About 100 bird species breed in this nature reserve and rabbits, deer, foxes and weasels live there. Bats hibernate in some remaining bunkers from the Second World War. For a small part of the route you walk through an open dune landscape with shrubs. In the background you can hear the surf of the North Sea. Meijendel is an inspiring landscape. It is not without reason that Vincent van Gogh lived here for a year.
