An inspiring landscape

This route takes you through Meijendel, a vast nature reserve north of Scheveningen. You mainly walk through the forest in the dune valley. Many hawthorns and other deciduous trees planted by man grow here. While walking you will also see remnants of the former agricultural reclamation, such as Farm Meijendel and various sand walls and ditches that are planted with alders. Here and there you walk over small plots with pine trees. Meijendel is an ideal walking area, you can completely relax in this sheltered and quiet area. The hectic Randstad seems to be on the other side of the world here. Animals also like to stay in Meijendel. About 100 bird species breed in this nature reserve and rabbits, roe deer, foxes and weasels live there. Bats hibernate in some surviving bunkers from World War II. For a small part of the route you walk through an open dune landscape with shrubs. In the background you can hear the surf of the North Sea. Meijendel is an inspiring landscape. It is not for nothing that Vincent van Gogh lived here for a year.
