Landgoed De Paauw
Huis De Paauw in Wassenaar was built around 1770 by order of Adriaan Pieter Twent, who was Minister of Water Management under Louis Napoleon. After his death, it was bought in 1838, together with the estates Raaphorst, Ter Horst and Backershagen, by Prince Frederik of the Netherlands (1797-1881), the brother of King Willem II. He had both the house and the gardens thoroughly modified. After his death, his daughter Marie De Paauw inherited and after her death in 1910 it passed into the hands of builders, who sold the large estate in parts.
