Tour of country estates near Maarn

Your walking route starts at Europarcs De Utrechtse Heuvelrug. Just above Maarn you enter De Koeheuvels. Until the twentieth century, Maarn was surrounded by a vast heathland. Only De Koeheuvels remains of this ancient landscape. After a look at the garden village of Maarn, you will pass Huize 't Stort, on a beautiful estate. This country estate was built in 1903. Different owners added pieces each time. Landgoed De Hoogt is dominated by a high-lying country house, which is now almost twice as large as the original building. In 1925 the house was extended both to the left and to the right. With a balcony supported by Tuscan columns, several dormer windows in the eaves and three French doors in the first floor, the house is impressive to see.
