Berkelland, Gelderland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 166857
Provided by: Groots Genieten
Cycle under the pine trees of the 66 hectare Assinkbos, to open fields and the Lankheet estate. It is a landscape with countless streams, hedgerows, ponds and triangular meadows and agricultural land. The Lankheet domain has mixed forests, including old pine trees on drifting sands. An old irrigation system has been restored to its former glory and the badger has reintroduced itself. The observant cyclist may be able to recognize one of the mighty castles. The cycle route takes you to Haaksbergen, where you can view the Oostendorpermolen. The old oil mill was built in 1548 to replace a mill that stood upstream at the Vedderbrug. The watermill was washed away by a flood in 1946, but the current, equally authentic-looking building was built in 1950. Every second Saturday of the month, the mill produces linseed oil and animal feed. Flour and grain from the flour mill is destined for a local baker, but is also sold at the mill.
