Description
In the western part of Zeeland there is a peninsula where you can enjoy the vastness of the province while cycling through the landscape. You can see the North Sea, the Western Scheldt and the Veerse Meer. From 1958, the Delta Works were also built here to prevent flooding in the future after the flood disaster.
On the road from Vlissingen
The starting point of this route is in Vlissingen, without doubt one of the most exuberant cities in Zeeland. It is a modern city with an old core, but the coastal town also has beautiful beaches that are bustling with tourism. From the wide promenade you can see the many ships sailing on their way to the harbor. Armed with binoculars you can follow them even better.
Windmill De Hoop
In Sint-Laurens you pass the former windmill De Hoop (hull/remainder) from 1721. The mill caught fire in 1943 because the catch had overheated. Since then, only the hull is still standing. As much of the inventory is still intact, there are serious plans to restore the mill.
Ter Hooge estate
Nature lovers will be amazed at the Ter Hooge estate. The approximately 25 hectare estate consists largely of a park and forest area. The park is mainly laid out in the English landscape style: extensive lawns, fairytale water features were designed here after the Second World War. The park stretches out around a magnificent castle.
