The Engbertsdijksvenen
In the Engbertsdijksvenen you can still find raised bog. In most places in the Netherlands raised bog has disappeared due to peat extraction, but the excavation of the peat remained limited in this area. Many special plants grow there such as cotton grass, sundew, cranberry and several types of orchids. You will also find birds in abundance, for example the bluethroat, the crane, the taiga bean goose and the eared grebe. On the rest of the bike ride you will pass typical Dutch mills such as the Grote Geesterse Molen and the Molen van Frans. At the latter mill you will find more information about the flora and fauna around the Mosbeek.
