Description
Zeeland is known for the impressive Delta Works that were constructed here to protect the land against the water. This route takes you past two dams that are part of these structures.
On the road across the Delta Works
The starting point of this route is in Oosterland. From here you set course for the Grevelingenmeer and the Grevelingendam delta work. Along the way you enjoy the vastness of the landscape. On the dam you can sit at Restaurant PUURR by Rich to enjoy a snack and a drink by the water. Before the construction of the Delta Works, the Grevelingenmeer was an estuary of the North Sea. Today this is the largest saltwater lake in Western Europe. A little further on you cycle across the Deltawerk Philipsdam. This dam was constructed between 1976 and 1987 to close off the Krammer and Volkerak waters from the Oosterschelde.

You then cycle further along the edge of the Oosterschelde. Visit the Flood 1953 Museum to learn more about the Delta Works and the flood disaster in Zeeland.
The Oosterland mill
The tour takes you further to the Oosterlandse mill. This mill in Oosterland was built in 1752 as a replacement for a standard mill. The ground sailor is equipped with two pairs of grinding stones. Since the mill was closed down as a company, it has been put into operation by a volunteer miller. That miller died in early December 2013. As soon as a new volunteer is found, the mill will start running again.
