Description

Today you cycle through water-rich polders and extensive peat meadow areas with beautiful views. Soon after your starting point you can have a coffee at Eet-en Drinkcafé De Gkeerde Kanis. The route takes you past medieval watercourses and small, characteristic villages. Woerden is a beautiful town to explore at your leisure. You will see the fourteenth-century St. Peter's Church and the old town hall from 1501. Bodegraven is also worth an award, as is the lock in Woerdense Verlaat - which dates from 1448! The Kockengense Mill is a seesaw mill that was built in 1675 to drain the Kockengen polder. Until 1960, the mill operated purely on wind power. After 1962, the mill was used as a reserve pumping station for a larger area of several polders. The mill is still operational.
