This route takes you more through Boxmeer and the surrounding meadows and nature reserves. Boxmeer is located on the left bank of the Maas in North Brabant. You enter the village from the south via the floodplains of this river. On the right you pass Boxmeer Castle. In the fourteenth century there was a fortress here that looked out over the Maas. After several sieges and destructions, the castle was converted into a country house from the eighteenth century onwards. The Brestbos is a heathland and peat area that was reclaimed in the course of the nineteenth century. Nowadays the forest mainly consists of summer oaks, Scots pines and royal fern. The rest of the route you cycle through an extensive agricultural cultural landscape that was created after the reclamation of the Peel in the early 20th century.
