In the Gelderse Vallei you take a beautiful route through a varied landscape of forests, grasslands and the ancient Arkemheenpolder. You will also pass sights such as a vineyard and steam pumping station.
Vineyard
Nearby you drive past B&B Groot Overhorst, where you can stay with the farmer. A nice rural address! Just before Appel you drive through an old bocage landscape. You really feel like you're going back in time here. Mill De Hoop dates from 1888 and served to grind grain. Further on you pass Wijngaard Aan de breede Beek, a nice stop.
Arkemheen steam pumping station
The Arkemheenpolder was constructed in the fourteenth century and is one of the oldest polders in the Netherlands. Here you will find the Arkemheen Stoomgemaal, a monument from 1883. The name of the Zeedijk dates back to the time when you looked out over the Zuiderzee here, now you can see the Nijkerkernauw and Flevoland. In the Gelderse Vallei you drive through the forests of the Kruishaarse Heide, near Voorthuizen you pass through the nature-rich recreation area Zeumeren.
