In the past, the fishing village of Katwijk aan Zee and the more agricultural Katwijk aan den Rijn were different places. Today, they form the municipality of Katwijk, together with Rijnsburg, Katwijk-Noord and Valkenburg. The close-knit fishing community is still very much felt in Katwijk aan Zee. Katwijk has a wealth of monuments and attractions, including churches, numerous museums and of course the dune landscape. The annual New Year's Dive also takes place in Katwijk. In Rijnsburg you will find the Spinozahuis. You start at Herberg Welgelegen in Valkenburg, a beautiful old villa on the Oude Rijn. This is the old town hall of Valkenburg. Stay overnight and explore more of the area the next day, by bike or on foot!
