The hay and the art route

This fun cycling route takes you through water-rich polders and an extensive peat meadow area, but also along medieval waterways that lie between small, characteristic villages in the Vecht region. From the historic Woerden, it takes you to enjoy all the straight ditches, gullies and waterways that the region is so famous for. The highlight of your cycling tour will undoubtedly be De Haar Castle. This castle used to be known as Het Huys te Haer. The first foundations of this castle were probably built in the twelfth century. As expected, the castle suffered a lot from wars and battles. From 1892 onwards, the castle was rebuilt on the remains of the old fortress. The castle overlooks a beautiful, extensive English landscape park and there is always something to do. You can take a guided tour or visit one of the many other events that are organised in the castle, such as concerts, fairs, children's activities or theatre performances.
