Description
You can get on your bike at Recreatiepark De Veerstal. Get off a little further at Restaurant Houtplaats! This tour along the winding banks of the Oude IJssel takes you past numerous estates, castles and mills. Bingerden Estate is one of the oldest preserved country estates in the Netherlands. Laag-Keppel water mill was built in the 19th century as a flour mill. The imposing Keppel Castle, built of red brick, stands on an island in the Oude IJssel. Middachten Estate is one of the largest private estates in the Veluwe. You also cycle through Doetinchem and the historic fortified town of Doesburg. You cycle back along the Lathumse Plas, one of the lakes of the extensive Rhederlaag recreational area. With its sandy beach, the Lathumse Plas is a wonderful place for those who want to take a break.
