Kasteel Middachten

Middachten Castle is strategically located on the Veluwezoom, in a swampy country in a bend of the IJssel. Middachten was originally a fortified residence located in the water. In the course of the Middle Ages it was further strengthened. The whole expanded into a moated main castle with an outer castle. The current classical building is built on the foundations of the old castle. Amerongen Castle served as an example for the massive structure in a wide moat. Instead of a building around a courtyard, an almost square closed building block was chosen in the 17th century. You can enjoy ancient gardens around this castle. Stroll along stately trees and admire the beautiful roses in the rose garden.
