Churches and windmills in the Krimpenerwaard

Your route starts at Pancake Restaurant Onder De Molen, in the middle of the vast polder landscape of the Krimpenerwaard. You drive along the Lek for a while, from the dike you have a beautiful view of the rippling water and the pristine floodplains. Schoonhoven is known for its goldsmiths, but is also home to many monumental buildings. Here you pass the centuries-old Bartholomew's Church. You will see the Bonrepas (French for good meal), a polder mill from 1600. The towns of Bonrepas and Vlist are so well preserved that they enjoy a protected village view. You will also pass the Schuurkerk Berkenwoude, which is next to the Reformed Church. It resembles a barn and dates from the time when followers of unofficially permitted religions gathered in preaching sheds and secret churches.
