Culemborg, between Lek and Linge

In the Betuwe you will find everything to make your cyclist's heart beat faster: peace, space and historical towns and forts. Get on the saddle and come and enjoy this cycling gem.

Marienwaerdt
The route starts at a beautiful spot: in the Mariënwaerdt estate. On this private estate of over 900 hectares there are no less than 40 national monuments, such as 14 farmsteads, haystacks and flood barns. Further on you will pass Eetcafé Uw Chef Tricht. You can eat something delicious here, before you cycle further into the polder. You will cycle through a mosaic of grassy meadows and orchards. On the car-free roads you will have no trouble shifting down.

Forts
After you have driven a bit along the Lek with its untouched floodplains, you will pass the ruins of Culemborg Castle. The fortress was built in the fourteenth century and largely demolished in 1812. You will pass Werk aan het Spoel, in the landscape you can still see the constructed fortifications. Further on you will pass Fort Everdingen from 1847. KunstFort Asperen is an impressive monument, definitely worth getting off. Finally you will drive through the picturesque Beesd.
