Colijnsplaat, Kortgene and Goes

No wild nature in Zuid-Beveland, but neatly landscaped polders with tight arable land that is used for agriculture and fruit growing. On the peninsula between the Oosterschelde and Westerschelde, the battle against the rising water has been won and the fertile land is gratefully cultivated. At Katse Plaat the route continues across Noord-Beveland, a beautiful tidal area outside the dike where you can breathe in the salty sea air. When the sandbank becomes exposed at low tide, you can see the avocet tripping over the mud on its stilt legs and feeding on mussels, shrimps and worms. Terns, cormorants and plovers also see the sandbank as a cozy roadside restaurant. Because the Oosterschelde cannot satisfy its hunger for sand, the Katse Plaat is threatened. The Katse Plaat is part of the Oosterschelde National Park, which covers a total of 370 hectares, where porpoises and seals are also regularly seen. The windmills along the route are photogenic. The Old Mill that you encounter in Colijnsplaat is a ground sailor from 1727. The grain mill has two pairs of grinding stones. The flour mill De Hoop stands out on the edge of Wolphaarsdijk. This tower mill from 1808 is covered with roofing felt. Originally the mill was a ground sailer. Fuss about wind rights and clearing a forest is the mill. In 1894 the owner decided to build the mill 10.5 higher on the bricks and thus became a tower mill. De Nooit Gedacht is a flour mill on the Arendstraat on the edge of Eindewege. It consists of a round brick tower mill from 1872, covered with roofing felt and has a radius of 21.20/21.30 meters. It is a fairly iconic mill that is located close to the track of the Zeeland line. However, on one side of the mill the landscape value is limited by houses.
