Until the beginning of the twentieth century, the nature around Overloon was wild and unspoiled. The Overloonse Duinen is an area with drifting dunes, many juniper thickets and a piece of heathland. Trees were planted on the sandy soil for timber production and over time the rugged nature was exploited. At 75 locations on the Liberation Route there are boulders that serve as listening points. L117: The Battle of Overloon is about one of the fiercest battles in the Netherlands during the Second World War.
Geysteren watermill from 1897 replaced a predecessor that stood on the same spot. The mill fell into disrepair due to an electric mill. In 1961 the mill was converted into a home. Well Castle has dominated the area for centuries. During the Second World War, both the main castle and the outer castle were severely damaged. Both buildings were restored and are now listed as national monuments, as are the bridges, the tithe barn and the historic garden that belong to the fortress.
