Description
East of Bergum is a popular water sports area. Water sports enthusiasts can indulge themselves on and around the Bergumermeer, but even if you do not participate in one of the many activities, a bike ride through this area is an experience. Stroll through the many marinas and admire the beautiful vessels that are anchored there. Grab a terrace, for example at WV Suwâld, while enjoying panoramic views over the water.
In the Frisian Suameer, or Sumar, you can view a beautiful windmill. The octagonal corn mill De Hoop grinds grain on a voluntary basis. The mill had a predecessor that was equipped as a peeling and corn mill, but it burned down in 1881. The current mill was built afterwards. Those interested can visit the mill on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
