Description
Friesland is more than lakes and wide views. This route also takes you through the Gaasterland, a sloping and wooded area.
\\\'t Zwaantje
Cycling is peaceful in the wide polders along the IJsselmeer. The miles seem to pass by almost automatically. In Nijemirdum you can see a solitary church tower from the fourteenth century. Mill't Zwaantje, a polder mill from 1893, is located just outside the village.
Gaasterland
A Frisian surprise awaits you further on: the rolling landscape of the Gaasterland! The Frisian hills consist of boulder clay ridges that were pushed up in the Ice Age. The highest is near the esdorpje Oudemirdum and rises almost thirteen meters above NAP. You also drive through Elfbergen, with its 175 hectares this is the largest forest in Gaasterland. You can visit Het Sweiland Marina in picturesque Balk. The last kilometers you drive back into the Frisian polder. What a silence!
