Windmill

Windmolen Het Zwaantje

Visit the website
The mill was originally built in 1893. Outside the current field walls you can see the arches of a predecessor built around 1790 and later burnt down. In 1956 the windmill for the drainage of the Huitebuursterpolder was decommissioned, was dismantled and equipped with a Lister diesel engine for the auger drive. In September 1987, the mill was put back into operation as a fully-fledged windmill after restoration. During this restoration, parts were used from the demolished mill 'De Noordster' from Nieuwe Bildtdijk. The mill has been owned by the De Fryske Mole Foundation since 1996. The mill is a typical Frisian polder mill, a so-called monk's mill, octagonal and with thatched ground sailor without a miller's house. It is the last remaining polder mill in the municipality of Gaasterl? N-Sleat.
