Enjoy Groningen

This route takes you through the area of Winschoten, Bellingwolde and Oude Pekela. You make a varied bike ride where you pass beautiful historic buildings and old mills.

Largest rose garden
In Winschoten you cycle along the edge of the 70-hectare Stadspark. In the northern part are graceful ponds, in the southern part of this park is the largest rosarium in the Netherlands. In the summer months, 320 different types of roses bloom here. A little later you drive through Oudeschans, a former fortress that enjoys a protected village view. The beautiful monumental Garrison Church was built in 1626.

Bellingwolde
Bellingwolde also enjoys a protected village view. On the Hoofdweg you can still see a few capital mansions from the golden Groningen era of grain. The Magnuskerk from 1527 and the former courthouse from 1643 are also pictures. At Wedderveer you pass the Wedderbergen, an idyllic shifting dune area. The brook Westerwoldse Aa meanders along these dunes. After a long day of cycling through the beautiful Groningen countryside, you can relax at Brasserie-Restaurant Pekelahof.

Groningen windmills
In Groningen there are not only beautiful old churches, you can also see some beautiful windmills. Veldkamp\\\'s Meuln in Bellingwolde is a corn mill from 1855. De Weddermarke is a former polder mill from 1898. De Onrust is the last mill on your route. This flour mill is located in Oude Pekela and was built in 1850.
