Tytsjerksteradiel, Friesland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 136173
Provided by: Groots Genieten
A vast and water-rich polder country, beautiful medieval churches: you can enjoy it all in Friesland. This route takes you through the northwest of this cycling gem.
The Trijnwouden
Just like the villages of Oenkerk and Oudkerk, Giekerk is also located on the Trijnwouden, a sand ridge. Just outside Giekerk you cycle past the twelfth-century Martinus Church. Then you cycle through the polder to the village of Stiens. Here you will see De Hoop, a flour mill from 1853. The medieval St. Vitus Church is also beautiful!
Frisian stins
In Hallum you seem to drive back in time, what a beautiful village! In the originally Germanic village of Wanswerd you will pass Victor, a polder mill from 1867. In Birdaard you can enjoy the special atmosphere at the Dokkumer Ee. It is wonderful to travel miles along the water to the next attraction: De Klinze, a Frisian stins that originally dates from the sixteenth century. Just before Oenkerk you will also see the Stania State.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
