Tour of windmills in the Haarlemmermeerpolder

After a cup of coffee at Landwinkel Castelijn, you lift the bicycles from the bicycle carrier. You will soon cycle past a seesaw mill, the Hoogmadesche Molen from 1897. Four kilometers further on, the Lagenwaardse Molen looms in the distance, also a seesaw mill. Nowadays this drains the Lagenwaard polder. Then follows one of the few remaining sawmills in the Netherlands: the Dekkermolen, a seesaw mill from 1911. The Fort at Kudelstaart, further on, is part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam. Many peat ponds around Aalsmeer have been pumped dry and the peat soil later turned out to be very good for flower growing. Hence the large flower auction in Aalsmeer. You cycle back via the Veendermolen, a beautiful octagonal stone ground sailor from 1830. After restoration, the mill is fully operational again and runs on a voluntary basis.
