A tour of Haaksbergen, Enschede and Buurse

Your cycle route starts at Hooge Esch Buurse Pannenkoekenrestaurant. From here you can take a nice bike ride to the Buurserzand and the Haakbergerveen. The juniper bush is rare and is protected in the Netherlands. The growth of this plant makes the Buurserzand special, but what is extra special is that they are more than 150 years old here! The area has moist soil. The heath plains, where cattle roam around, are surrounded by beautiful forests. Below Haaksbergen you will discover a beautiful water mill built that is used as a corn and oil mill. The original Oostendorpermolen was built in 1548, it dates from 1950. This mill also grinds grain and beats oil. The flour is sold to a local bakery, but also sold in the mill itself. The mill also produces linseed oil and animal feed.
