Tour through the Pannenhoef nature reserve

This long cycling route of over 72 kilometers takes you through the beautiful Pannenhoef nature reserve, the area between Zundert, Etten-Leur and Rijsbergen.

Cycling route along windmills The route starts at the parking lot on the Akkermolenweg in Zundert. Immediately after you get on your bike, you pass the first mill: the Akkermolen. This mill was built in 1665. The mill was actually used until 1950 and since then the mill has been kept running by volunteer millers. Further along the route you will come across another beautiful mill in Sprundel. The mill bears a name that is popular for mills in the Netherlands: De Hoop. The round stone mill was built in 1840 on behalf of Cornelis Peters. The mill changed hands a number of times, but was always used as a flour mill until it was decommissioned.

Pannenhoef nature reserve During this route you cycle through Pannenhoef nature reserve, the area between Zundert, Etten-Leur and Rijsbergen. The landscape of the Pannenhoef nature reserve was shaped by the extraction of peat and the cultivation of the area. For three centuries, people left their mark on the environment in this way. They also raised parts of the nature reserve. On the heath remnants, which are regularly plucked, you will find round and small sundews. Many birds take refuge here. The fens of the Pannenhoef have a rich variety of plant growth.
