Our Wadden Islands have a rich nature and Texel is therefore a popular destination for those who want to escape the daily grind for a few hours or days. Cycling past small villages, in the dunes or along the fields you leave everything behind for a while and it is pure enjoyment. The eastern part of the cycling tour arrives at the Koogerveld. Here you find your way on the border of dunes and agricultural land. Birds can be found everywhere on and around Texel. They like to breed and hunt on Texel; frequently seen guests are the eider, the spoonbill and waders. But Texel has several special residents; the common and gray seals are regularly spotted and rabbits and hares hop between the dunes, on which the ermine hunts. The happy peace seeker will spot white-beaked dolphins from the beaches. The cycling tour starts in the smallest village on Texel: De Waal. It was built on a clay loam outcrop. Close by is the Waal en Burg nature reserve, which is a favorite with waterfowl and where orchids grow, among other things.
