Description

Via Ansen you cycle to the Dwingelderveld. Imagine yourself far from civilization between the rolling moors, more than sixty lakes and fens, drifting sands and forests in the largest wet heath area in Western Europe. National Park Dwingelderveld is unique in size, but also in terms of flora and fauna. Stop off in Dwingeloo for a snack or drink at Restaurant-Bar De Riete. Dwingeloo is one of the best preserved green villages in the Netherlands! Castle Echten was built in the fifteenth century. The castle dates from the Middle Ages, when it was still a hall tower castle. It doesn't really look medieval anymore because of the eighteenth-century facade, but it is still intact. The castle stands on an island that can be reached via a bridge and is completely moated.
