Tour of Niers and Kalbeck Castle

First you cross the Niers, a small river that rises in Germany and is approximately 110 kilometres long. Only the last 11 kilometres it flows through the Netherlands. From the bridge you have a beautiful view of the surroundings. You will find grasslands, wet roughs, willows and poplars here. You will also pass the Roepaan Estate, of the Maria Roepaan monastery. Then you cycle to Kalbeck Castle. The first written mention of dates from 1326, when Count Reinald II of Gelre gave the house as a loan to Dirk Loef III of Kleef. In 1614 it came into Prussian hands. The castle is currently privately owned. Via Goch you cycle back to the Netherlands.
