Description

Your walking route starts at Orphanage Monnickendam, a beautiful sixteenth-century building on the edge of the center of Monnickendam. In the cozy tea room you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee - with the famous apple pie of course! Take a look at Noordeinde, where you will find the ancient town hall and the historic town hall tower, the Speeltoren, with the oldest hand-playable carillon in the Netherlands. Then you walk through the most beautiful streets of Monnickendam. You will see many centuries-old buildings with a bell, stepped or gabled gable. The Grote Kerk was built in the fifteenth century in the Gothic style. From here you walk along a leafy footpath along the old moat. You make a shortcut through the Wendelmoet residential area, after which you walk back over the dike along the Gouwzee.
