Description

Your walking route starts at Weeshuis Monnickendam, a beautiful sixteenth-century building on the edge of the centre of Monnickendam. In the cosy tearoom you can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee - with the famous apple pie of course! Take a look at Noordeinde, where you will find the centuries-old Town Hall and the historic town hall tower, the Speeltoren, with the oldest hand-playable carillon in the Netherlands. Then you walk through the most beautiful streets of Monnickendam. You will see many centuries-old buildings with a clock, stepped or pointed gable. The Grote Kerk was built in the fifteenth century in the Gothic style. From here you walk along a leafy footpath along the old moat. You make a shortcut via the Wendelmoet residential location, after which you walk back along the dike along the Gouwzee.
