The first part of this route takes you through the De Maasduinen National Park. Here you can fully enjoy the vast heathland and forests. You might even come across a flock of sheep or Galloway cattle along the way! Via the nice German town of Goch you cycle to Kalbeck Castle. The first written mention dates from 1326. At that time, Count Reinald II of Gelre gave the house as a fief to Dirk Loef III of Kleef. In 1614 it came into Prussian hands. It is currently privately owned. Also take a break at the fifteenth-century Sankt Cyriakus, a beautiful example of late Gothic in the Lower Rhine region. In the 9th century there was already a small wooden church here. It was part of the medieval farm complex'Villa Geizefurt\\\' in present-day Kalbeck.
