Description

From here you cycle to Franeker, an Eleven Cities town with many historic buildings. Note the bell gable of the Planetarium (1774), where Eise Eisinga built a working model of the solar system in his living room. A little further on, beautiful, carefully restored warehouses and patrician homes adorn the picturesque skyline at the harbor of Harlingen. Via the gatehouse of the Liauckema State and Landhuis Schatzenburg you cycle to the stately Poptaslot, also called Azingastate or Heringastate. It was built in the 15th century as the summer residence of a wealthy lawyer from Leeuwarden. This stins (\\\'stone house\\\') was used after 1712 as a rest home for poor women. It is now open as a museum and decorated in 17th and 18th century style.
