Bert from Bergen
The route starts in Bergen. If you come by car, park your car in the parking lot at the Town Hall. Start of route at junction 69. You cycle to junction. 83 through a wooded area. Then you cycle to KNP. 33-14 and 86. You pass through the village of Afferden. This is necessary because there is no cycle path next to the national highway.
You have to cross the highway, but PLEASE NOTE! dangerous crossing point.
You then cycle to the Afferden ferry. Once you have crossed the Maas, turn left after approximately 300 meters.
Until you reach Maashees you will continue to cycle close to the Maas, the roads are car-free.
In Geysteren you can visit the watermill. In the middle of the village of Geysteren you can drink delicious coffee/tea with Limburg pie.
When you come to Wanssum you can admire the work being done to restore the old Maas arm. You now drive to Blitterswijck and can have a bite to eat or a drink at Tante Jet aan de Maas. After the stop, take the bicycle ferry to the other side of the Maas and then end up in the territory of Wellerlooi/Well. Here too you can cycle along the Maas and use the picnic areas. You enter the village of Well and continue following this road. You can cycle down to the Brienen aan de Maas restaurant. If you continue to follow this road (partly dirt road) you will pass through the swamp area on the Maas. Many cyclists ignore this because they take the wrong route.
After this you enter a wooded area which takes you further to the starting point in Bergen. Have fun on this beautiful route.
