Description
The area surrounding Wijchen consists of winding dikes, forests and meadows. The first part of this route takes you along the banks of the Maas to Overasselt. You will pass the Maasmolen, a flour mill from 1741. A little further on you can visit the Agricultural Museum de Garstkamp. At De Nieuwe Schatkuil you are welcome on the farm terrace for a drink and a delicacy. Then you cycle through the Hatertse and Overasseltse Vennen. This gently sloping nature reserve consists of a beautiful mix of coniferous forest, fens and river dunes. In Wijchen you will pass an ancient tower: the only remnant of what was once a castle. Hotel Restaurant Zalen Hoogeerd is the start and end point of this route. Here you can sit down for a nice lunch, dinner or cup of coffee.
