Tour of history and nature in the Drents-Friese Wold

On the border of Drenthe and Friesland lies the Drents-Friese Wold National Park. This cycle route runs largely through this park consisting of forest, heathland and drifting sands. Certainly as beautiful as the Dwingelerveld National Park, but much quieter! You get on in the small town of Wapse, at Hotel Restaurant De Wapser Herberg. This is a cozy family hotel full of nostalgic items. Definitely worth a look before you start your cycle tour. Just before you cycle into the brink village of Doldersum, you cross the Vledder Aa. This stream rises in the Drents-Friese Wold. Here you will also find a sheepfold and a lookout tower that offers a beautiful view of the Doldersummerveld, a wet heathland. Take a break along the way at Restaurant Aekingerzand, right on the beautiful Aeckingermeer, or Canadameer!
