In the east of the Veluwe are the villages of Loenen, Klarenbeek, Eerbeek and Empe. Here too, the landscape is rolling and green and you can see the characteristic tops of the Veluwe trees waving in the wind. The old Steilhul markebos used to be common property of Loenen. It borders directly on the Loenense forest, where with a bit of luck you can hear woodpeckers hammering on the trunk of one of the many conifers in the area. Red deer, wild boar, roe deer and foxes walk through the coniferous trees.
When you have just left, you will pass De Korenmolen in Eerbeek. The mill is special because it is the only overhead water mill in the Netherlands that is still working. The oil mill used to extract oil from beechnuts, but when it turned out that a toxic substance was released, they switched to extracting oil from linseed. This linseed oil is sold in the mill. Because the Eerbeekse brook has been dry for a number of years, the mill cannot operate at full capacity. During a tour, a guide will be happy to tell you everything that happens on and around the mill to ensure the proper production of linseed oil.
Also nice to see is Ter Horst Castle, which was built in 1557. There was probably a castle here before that time, but it was probably destroyed by all kinds of fighting. Ter Horst was then rebuilt as a farm, until the mayor of Arnhem decided that a castle should be built on this site. This fortress was renovated around 1791, with the former rear becoming the front facade and vice versa. A forecourt, outbuildings such as a chapel and an orangery, and a bridge between the castle and the forecourt were also constructed.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
