Nunspeet, Gelderland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 117573
Provided by: route.nl
Explore the green surroundings of Nunspeet and Hierden and cycle through the largest nature reserve in the Netherlands: the Veluwe. You will also pass close to the Veluwerandmeren.
The pigeon
You start near the De Duif mill. This belt mill was built in 1886. Your route takes you further along rolling heathlands, where fens interrupt the landscape. Authentic farms and the animals that graze on the meadows and roam the Veluwe make the cycling tour even more special. The Veluwerandmeren is also a special area, home to many unique plants. You will find pondweed and stoneweed here, for which a protection zone has even been established.
The Essenburgh
At Hierden you can view the De Essenburgh castle and estate, built on behalf of Johan Coolwagen. He wanted to acquire a place within the Knighthood of Veluwe with a prestigious status symbol, but when this failed he had to sell the estate to his creditors. In Hulshorst you can see the octagonal mill De Maagd, which still happily grinds.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
