Fort route near Gorinchem

This forts route starts on the edge of Leerdam, an old town known for its glass industry. You cycle on a car-free road through a characteristic Dutch polder of vast meadows, ditches and pollard willows. A little later you pass Arkel, a village on the Linge. Just before junction 39 you will see a domed church from 1855. You will cycle along the Merwede Canal to Gorinchem, a well-preserved fortified town. At Uitspanning Mini Camping De Leuve Hoeve you are welcome for a coffee with homemade apple pie on the cozy terrace. You cycle back to the Linge, where you can take a break BY't VEER. Via Herwijnen you drive to Fort bij de Nieuwe Steeg. Finally, you will pass through the picturesque Asperen, where you will see, among other things, the ancient Sint-Catharinakerk.
