Fort route near Gorinchem

This fort route starts on the edge of Leerdam, an old town known for its glass industry. You cycle along a car-free road through a characteristic Dutch polder of vast meadows, ditches and pollard willows. A little later you pass through Arkel, a village on the Linge. Just before junction 39 you will see a domed church from 1855. Along the Merwede Canal you cycle to Gorinchem, a well-preserved fortified town. At Uitspanning Mini Camping De Leuve hoeve you are welcome for a coffee with homemade apple pie on the cozy terrace. You cycle back to the Linge, where you can take a break at BY't VEER. Via Herwijnen you cycle to Fort bij de Nieuwe Steeg. Finally you pass through the picturesque Asperen, here you can see, among other things, the centuries-old Sint-Catharinakerk.
