Amersfoort, Driedorp and Nijkerk

In the area around Nijkerk and Amersfoort you will find different types of landscape. You will not be bored for a moment on this varied cycle route and you will continue to enjoy the water from the meadows and fields that are used for arable farming, the built-up areas of the cities and the shelter of the trees. In the hamlet of Appel (municipality of Nijkerk) you will find the beautiful windmill 'De Hoop', which was built in 1888. On the other side of the road another windmill burned down, and this windmill was built in its place. De Hoop was built as an octagonal, wood and reed covered corn mill on a stone base. The wooden octagon used to be from an oil mill in Zwolle and the mill contains two pairs of millstones. One pair is used to grind barley, corn and wheat for cattle feed on a voluntary basis.
