Amersfoort, Driedorp and Nijkerk

In the area around Nijkerk and Amersfoort you will find different landscape types. You will not be bored for a moment on this varied cycle route and will continue to enjoy the water from the meadows and fields used for arable farming, the built-up areas of the cities and the shelter of the trees. In the hamlet of Appel (municipality of Nijkerk) there is the beautiful tower mill 'De Hoop', which was built in 1888. On the other side of the road, another tower mill burned down, where this windmill was built in its place. De Hoop was built as an octagonal flour mill covered with wood and thatch on a stone substructure. The wooden octagon belonged to a Zwolle oil mill and there are two pairs of grinding stones in the mill. One flock is used to mill barley, corn and wheat for animal feed on a voluntary basis.
