Description

Thanks to the nutritious sea clay, in which all trees and shrubs are rooted, the greenery in Almere has quickly grown to a considerable extent. So much so that many do not realize that many of the numerous forest and nature reserves were conceived and created by humans not so long ago. On the south side of this route you will find the Almeerderhout forestry, with many beautiful spots that provide homes for brutal birds of prey, deer and frogs. The Lepelaarplassen are an important and protected breeding area for water, meadow and marsh birds. Spoonbills were spotted here as early as 1971. In the Oostvaardersplassen nature reserve and breeding area, tens of thousands of greylag geese ensure that these puddles do not become overgrown. The young Kotterbos on the east side of the route consists of poplars and slower growing deciduous trees. There is a wet area with rugged reed fields and characteristic willow groves. Further on you come to Buitenhout, a rustic forest area with a road partly covered by tree canopies. The Overvaart forest forms ten green rooms of approximately one square kilometer each.
