If you go cycling in Friesland you probably expect a flat polder and meadow landscape, but you don't have to be in Gaasterland for that. In this region you will find richly sloping forests. This route takes you through the woods, but also along the IJsselmeer coast.

From the shore of the Slotermeer you set course for the village of Ruigahuizen. You will cycle past the beautiful bell tower of this village. These free-standing bell chairs were often built in poor villages in the north. The bells ring during funerals in cemeteries where these bell chairs can be found. The bell chair of Ruigahuizen was built at the beginning of the 20th century and the chair is made of beautiful Bilinga hardwood. Between Oudemirdum and Bakhuizen you pass the second bell tower on this route. This bell tower was rebuilt after the Second World War. At the height of this bell tower you cycle a bit along the IJsselmeer coast.
