Cycling along the Amstel

You drive straight through the polder, along the Amstel. You will see beautiful country estates all around. All kinds of small waters find their way through the remote area. The hustle and bustle of the Randstad is nowhere to be found here. The starting point of this route is in Uithoorn. Then you cycle north towards Ouderkerk aan de Amstel. You will also pass Fort Waver-Amstel. Around Fort Waver-Amstel, many rabbits hop in the reeds and grass in and around the moat. This fort is part of the Defense Line of Amsterdam. The primary purpose was to defend flood sluices in the area. The Fort at Uithoorn had a special defensive position: it was built to protect the (former) railways that ran here.
