Description
Your route starts at MyHotel Meppel. In the vicinity of Staphorst you will find the Staatsbos Staphorst, this is a typical reclaimed forest on former heathland. You will also cycle to the village of De Wijk. The tour is characterized by the meadow landscape of the Reestdal. Southwest of the village you will see the wooded Landgoed Dickninge from the nineteenth century, which has limited access. In 1325, the monastery of Ruinen was moved to this location, to serve the churches in Beilen, Blijdenstein, Ruinen and Westerbork from here. The windmill De Wieker Meule is nice to visit. This octagonal windmill from 1829 is almost entirely covered with reed and has a span of 22.50 meters. Kasteel De Havixhorst is a nice place to take a look.
