Discover the secrets of the Bulb Region! In the heart of the Kagerplassen lakes lies the picturesque Kaageiland, with its many waterside terraces. On an island in 't Joppe, you'll find Brasserie Coazy, a lovely spot for a cup of coffee. The history here is also remarkable. Hidden beneath the center of Valkenburg are six or seven ancient Roman forts: in Castellumplein, the outline of the Praetorium Agrippinae fort is marked in the paving stones with dark gray tiles. Museum Oud Valkenburg displays a permanent exhibition on Roman heritage. Sunk beneath the waves near Katwijk lies one of the Bulb Region's best-kept secrets: the remains of the ancient Roman settlement of Lugdunum. From 1520 until the 17th century, remnants occasionally surfaced above water or from the sand.
