Description

From Grand Café De Steeg, you'll cycle through the Borne countryside, a beautiful area with the rolling hills of the Zendersche Esch, the ancient history of the Weleveld Estate, and the meandering Bornsebeek stream that winds its way through the Twente bocage landscape. Around the many farms, you'll see meadows where cows and sheep graze in the summer. Near Fleringen, you'll pass the Fleringer Mill, Herinckhave Castle, also an estate, and the watermill. The Stift (Abbey) is also on the route: an old, protected village scene dating back to the 12th century. Originally a Benedictine monastery, it was later converted into a monastery. Here, noble young ladies lived and worked in monastic settings. The original moat has been filled in, the church has been renovated, and the Stiftsschuur (a former barn) has been transformed into a restaurant.
