Trentse Bosspad

The walking route runs through the forests of Trent, through agricultural areas, past an old shooting range, past an abandoned bunker, over a former railway line and past Volkel airbase. You start your walk on the edge of hamlet't Oventje in the Brabant town of Zeeland. Here you will discover the impressive story behind the storm disaster of 1925. Soon you will find yourself in the Trentse Bossen, where the history of the Second World War and the Cold War can still be felt and seen. For example, take a look at'Commando bunker 221\\\' or Bunker Zeeland. This bunker was built during the Cold War for Volkel Air Base, which is a stone's throw away. A little further you will find the shooting range Trentse Bossen.
On the second part of your route you follow the German Line, an old railway line that was part of the connection between London and Berlin. During your walk you will also cross the'marine platform\\\'. The NS built this platform in 1948 for the marines who had to come to Volkel. Via this road you walk back to the point where you started your route. Close to the end point you can settle down at Bicycle and walking terrace't Oventje.
From the footpath over the German Line you can see Volkel Air Base. This base was built by the Germans in World War II and bombed and taken over by the Allies in 1944. In 2018, bomb craters from these air raids can still be seen in the Trentse Bossen.
