2-part walk in Weerribben Wieden and Zwartsluis

Your walking route starts at Hotel Zwartewater. In warm weather you can enjoy a snack and a drink on the terrace, right on the river Het Zwarte Water. Halfway along the route you will pass here again, just in time for lunch! Today you walk through the beautiful nature of De Wieden, which is part of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park. Here you will see vast reed lands, meadows full of flowers and dense swamp forests. No matter how unspoilt the landscape looks, De Wieden is a cultural landscape. From the fifteenth century onwards, peat was dredged here and laid out to dry on narrow legakkers. Zwartsluis is located at the point where the Zwarte Water and the Meppelerdiep meet. It was the transit port for the transport of Drenthe peat to Holland. You will see several beautiful monumental buildings there.
