Jacob van Lennep route, Part 24 (Enschede - Almelo)

Stingy countess
Tuesday, July 22. Van Lennep and Van Hogendorp leave Enschede by carriage. They drive through heaths to Hengelo: a"(...) large and thriving village\\\". In Delden they disembark for lunch. As an appetizer, the travelers enter Twickel, the estate of noblewoman Marie Cornélie van Wassenaer, a niece of Van Hogendorp. They pass the Noordmolen, deeper into the forest they see many large ponds between the oak trees and spruce groves. Van Lennep:"(...) But everything was badly maintained by the miserly Countess Van Wassenaer.\\\" The woman is not honored with a visit.

Silly neck
In Almelo, Van Lennep really only thinks the club is worth it. With Van Hogendorp he visits a few acquaintances, including the count (\\"a silly neck\\\") Van Rechteren who lives in Huis Almelo. This count is having his castle put in order for his marriage to a lady. Intentional or not, the work is not progressing very well, as only one room is completed per year.
