Jacob van Lennep route, Part 24 (Enschede - Almelo)

Stingy countess
Tuesday July 22. Van Lennep and Van Hogendorp leave Enschede by carriage. They drive through heathlands to Hengelo: a"(...) large and flourishing village\\\". They get out in Delden for lunch. As an appetizer, the travelers enter Twickel, the estate of noblewoman Marie Cornélie van Wassenaer, a niece of Van Hogendorp. They pass the Noordmolen, deeper in the forest they see many large ponds between the oak trees and spruce groves. Van Lennep:"(...) But everything was poorly maintained by the stingy Countess Van Wassenaer.\\\" The woman is not honored with a visit.

Silly neck
In Almelo, Van Lennep actually only thinks the society is worth it. With Van Hogendorp he visits some acquaintances, including the Count (\\\"a simpleton\\\\") Vanrechteren who lives in Huis Almelo. This count has his castle in order for his wedding to a lady. Intentionally or not, the work is not making much progress, as only one room is completed per year.
