A really nice round. It is good to take a day off for this, because you can do and see everything. The round is nice to very nice and beautiful.
Tip: the circle is located in the area of'de Bloesemtocht\\\'. It is held once a year. Check the date, because if the blossom tour is there, you cannot cycle this round.
The round starts in the town of Buren. Old, small, historic. Worth a visit, perhaps after the route.
You drive from the TOP through the city gate. Soon you will see junction 64 indicated. The route to Geldermalsen goes through Betuws\\\' landscape. The Linge is very beautiful in this part.
Then comes Geldermalsen, we've already talked about that.
As soon as you pass Geldermalsen, the fun begins. You cycle on a beautiful dike road to Deil and Enspijk. Between Deil and Enspijk you will pass windmill De Vlinder. It is sometimes open for visitors. The miller provides text and explanation about the grain mill and the view from the walkway (is it called that?) is beautiful. Don't forget to donate some money for the maintenance of the mill.
On the stretch to Rumpt you will come across a few tea gardens, where you can take a break.
Past Rumpt you follow the beautiful dike road to Asperen. The tour officially turns right before Asperen, but it is worth entering Asperen. If you turn right on the main road in Asperen, you will come to the east side of Asperen, where remains of the old city wall are located. Between the wall and the Linge is a beautiful green field where you can rest and eat lunch, for example.
After you have left Asperen, you will soon pass Fort Asperen. When this Fort is open, it is also a great opportunity to have a cup of coffee.
After Asperen you pass Acquoy. At a certain point you have to turn left, down the Lingedijk, towards node 81. From node 81 it continues to node 22.
Tip: there is an alternative. Do not go down the Lingedijk, but continue on it. After more than a hundred meters you will see an unpaved dirt road going to the right, down the dike. You come to a fork. Take the left road and cycle out. At the end you will see an iron gate. Just before this gate, a footpath turns left (the Klompenpad). For this you cross a bridge. Soon you come to a fence to a meadow. Go through this gate and take the bike in hand. The walking path is across the grassland. You go to the right across the grassland, all the way to the corner. Here you go to the left until the next corner. Here you leave the grassland and go up the dike, to the right of the wiring. You walk all the way down this dike to the road. You have now come across node 22.
You are now passing through Rhenoy. Now follow the dike to Beesd. After Beesd you go under the highway and you are almost immediately on the Mariënwaerdt estate. At Mariënwaerdt you can do various things, such as walking across the estate, sitting on the Linge, past the estate shop, and so on. website: www.marienwaerdt.nl
The cycle route goes over the estate and at a certain point goes over the Appeldijk, very famous for the blossoms.
Past Mariënwaerdt, the route passes Tricht and Buurmalsen and eventually you return to Buren.
Buren is a nice, small old historic town, known among others for Anna van Buren, first wife of William of Orange. If there is still energy left, it is nice to look around here (cycling around).
Tips to do: walk through the old streets anyway. Another tip is to walk on the remains of the city wall. Part of a medieval tower can be seen at the Weeshuiswal. Opposite a beautiful building: a former orphanage, founded by Maria, daughter of Anna van Buren. On the corner of the Weeshuiswal and the Commanderij you will find a sign with a history about an old farm or settlement from around 700. On the corner of the Commanderij and the Molenwal you will find a windmill. The mill itself is not particularly interesting, the sign next to it, about the owner, is even more so.
In the city, for example, the church and the old houses around it are also beautiful. The city gate and the wall houses are also beautiful to see. Finally, go and see where the castle once stood and be amazed: it was a huge (!) castle where
All in all a nice trip, plenty to do and see during the trip and (after) in Buren..
